The 4th Smart City Expo China opened today

This morning, the 4th Smart City Expo China was opened in Ningbo ceremoniously. And yesterday afternoon, a press conference for the expo was held by Ningbo Municipal People’s Government. At the conference, Chen Bingrong, Vice Secretary General of Ningbo Municipal People’s Government, introduced major activities and highlights of this year’s smart city expo, while Xie Yuedi, Director of Ningbo Smart City Construction Leadership Group Office, answered questions raised by journalists onsite. Up to around 100 media nationwide covered the conference.

The 4th Smart City Expo is co-hosted by Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China, State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the People’s Republic of China, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Engineering, China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom and the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province, organized by Ningbo Municipal People’s Government and supported by China Aerospace Science & Industry Corp. and China Electronics Technology Group Corporation.

The expo has already been held for a successive of 3 years, each year covering a total exhibition area of more than 20,000 square meters and having over 50,000 attendees. It is now a most influential and professional expo of the largest scale of its kind in China. This year, the subject of the expo is “gathering of smart applications for construction of a smart city” and the expo is composed of 4 major activities of an exhibition, a subject forum, a signing ceremony and a launching ceremony of national science day & smart city popular science exhibition.

The expo covers a total area of 20,000 square meters of 4 halls with 1,100 exhibition booths available for exhibits include smart communication network system, smart transportation, smart education, smart medical care, smart home living, projects for fusion of industrialization and information technology, internet finance, smart energy, food safety and software and smart projects. 85% of the exhibition area is taken by exhibitors with their booths finely decorated. The scale and level of the expo have been highly improved. Among all over 300 exhibitors at the expo, 11 of them are state-owned enterprises, over 50 of them are listed companies and up to one third of all exhibitors are top 100 enterprises of the software industry in 2013. Leading enterprises, specialized in smart health, smart education and smart transportation, are all exhibiting onsite. Besides, this year, the expo boasts a lot of guests and professional visitors from the U.K., countries in North Europe, Singapore, South Korea and Japan and so on. It is estimated that over 60,000 attendees are to visit the expo.

A summit forum and 6 high-level forums are to be held during the expo. The subject of the summit forum is “Internet of Things & Smart Production”, while those 6 high-level forums are Smart health Forum, Smart Education Forum, Smart Community Forum, Smart Shipping Forum, Mobile Finance Forum and Food Safety Tracing Forum. Experts from both at home and abroad are to exchange ideas on high-end technologies and hot topics in terms of smart city construction, internet of things, big data, cloud computing, smart health and internet finance, etc.

In order to fully make use of the expo as a platform for promotion of cooperation and enlargement of exchanges, a signing ceremony is to be held during the expo as well. At the signing ceremony, over 20 projects from China Aerospace Science & Industry Corp., Great Wall Broadband Network and EGOVA and so on are to take root in Ningbo.

And with the purpose of making the public to get to know more about knowledge of smart city, improving their ability to apply information technology in their daily life and in participation in public affairs management, the expo is to hold a mart city popular science exhibition, covering a total area of 400 square meters, where local citizens are able to experience and enjoy conveniences in a smart city.
