The First Ningbo “Wood Carvings with Gold Paint Cup” Onsite Wood Carving Creation Competition held

In order to celebrate the 100^th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, further carry forward the intangible cultural heritage of wood carving culture and improve the design and practical ability of young art and craft practitioners, the First Ningbo “Wood Carvings with Gold Paint Cup” Onsite Wood Carving Creation Competition, sponsored by the Ningbo Arts and Crafts Industry Association, was held on September 23. Xie Gongyi, Deputy District Mayor of the Yinzhou District, and Zhou Yiding, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC Yinzhou District Committee, attended the opening ceremony of the competition.

Wood carving is one of the ancient handicrafts of the Chinese nation. The artists making wood carvings with gold paint in Ningbo boast unique and mature skills in the rational selection of materials, the determination of structural mode, the weighing and calculation of module size, and the processing and production of components, with distinctive local characteristics.

As the administrative department of arts and crafts industry, the Ningbo Municipal Economic and Information Technology Committee attaches great importance to the protection and development of traditional woodworking skills. With the support of relevant municipal departments, the Ningbo Municipal Economic and Information Technology Committee actively builds a long-term mechanism for protection and inheritance, integrate intangible cultural heritage projects, inheritors and inheritance bases, and promote the inheritance and development of carving technology for making wood carvings with gold paint by building a platform for exchanges, recommending and selecting wood carving arts and crafts masters, guiding to the holding of onsite creation competitions and so on.

As is learnt, the First Ningbo “Wood Carvings with Gold Paint Cup” Onsite Wood Carving Creation Competition was held in the Wood Carvings with Gold Paint Art Museum in the Hengxi Town, Yinzhou District. A total of 24 contestants from Yinzhou, Fenghua, Ninghai, Xiangshan and other places with an average age of about 45 participated in the competition. They are the backbone of the wood carving industry in our city. They will create their own pieces of work with unified wood and tools in 5 days’ time. Finally, their pieces of work will be rated by industrial experts to determine gold, silver and bronze award winners as well as outstanding award winners.
