Scene-Driven: Government, Enterprises, and Medical Institutions Collaborate to Promote Innovative Medical Device Development

To deepen the implementation of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee and the Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government’s "Serveing Enterprises, the Public, and the Grassroots" initiative and accelerate the application and promotion of local innovative high-end medical consumables, on August 14, the Ningbo Municipal Economic and Information Technology Bureau, together with the Ningbo Municipal Health Commission and the Ningbo Municipal Medical Insurance Bureau, organized representatives from six municipal-level Grade A tertiary hospitals, including the First Affiliated Hospital of Ningbo University, the Ningbo No. 2 Hospital, and the Lihuili Hospital, to conduct targeted matchmaking services at the Surgnova Healthcare Technologies in Cixi.

The service team visited Surgnova’s production and R&D frontline, conducting on-site inspections of the development, testing, and manufacturing processes of high-end medical consumables such as intelligent staplers and steep pulse ablation devices. Representatives from the six hospitals engaged in in-depth discussions with the company’s executives regarding product performance, operational convenience, and cost-effectiveness, based on clinical needs.

At the subsequent symposium, Surgnova’s executives detailed the company’s technological breakthroughs in precision surgical consumables, core product advantages, and key challenges such as market access and domestic clinical validation. Hospital representatives participated in practical discussions with the company on issues like the clinical applicability, safety evaluation, and promotion pathways of innovative consumables.

In response to issues raised by the company, such as difficulties in local application of innovative products and inefficient clinical feedback mechanisms, Zhang Shuiqing, Deputy Director of the Ningbo Municipal Economic and Information Technology Bureau, emphasized three measures: First, establish a collaborative innovation mechanism. Encourage enterprises to continue innovation and collaborate with municipal hospitals to build "medical-engineering integrated R&D platforms", ensuring clinical needs directly inform R&D and jointly promoting product iteration and upgrading. Second, optimize the policy support environment. Prioritize recommending eligible innovative products for inclusion in the provincial innovative medical device application list to improve the application environment. Third, enhance precise matchmaking and demonstration efforts. The Ningbo Municipal Health Commission and the Ningbo Municipal Medical Insurance Bureau are supposed to increase support, establish a regular communication mechanism between medical institutions and local outstanding medical device enterprises, and provide clinical trial scenarios.
